Standing at our pool terrace or a little higher up above at the Pipila Monumento, you’ll have the view of the village of Guanajuato just below. You will be able to see that we have just one main street built over the riverbed that runs down the center of the village. Guanajuato is constructed on each side of the riverbed with the very center of the Centro Historico about 85 meters below Casa Zuniga. This is a three minute walk from the house or a 90 second ride on the Funicular. To the right of Casa Zuniga is a lighthouse on the side of one of the hills. This marks the headwaters of the Guanajuato river and the Presa de Olla that was built in the mid seventeen hundreds. At the opposite end is the cemetery of Santa Paula with the mummies of Guanajuato. Across the street from Casa Zuniga are the hills with the 23 silver mines. For a while, each day they produced over three quarters of all the silver produced worldwide. All of the sites are walkable from Casa Zuniga. Everything from the home of Diego Rivera to the regional museum Alhóndiga de Granaditas where the first battle for independence took place the morning of September 28th 1810.
